A number of people responded to my thread last week about organizing a new California-based network for creators of all kinds. Below is the info email I sent out to those respondents. If you’re in California, and the call sounds appealing to you, please read the post for a registration link and a few notes on the idea.
Dear Californians,
If you’re bcc’d on this email, it’s because you responded to one of my calls about forming a California collective for creators of all types—writers, philosophers, intellectuals, programmers, artists, scientists, engineers, you name it.
Now, clearly, California is not short on organizations, scenes, or institutions, so what I am thinking here?
Well, I’ve been in California for over 25 years, and as much as I love our state’s history and cultural legacy, I’ve found myself growing less and less satisfied over time with where our state is going in terms of its intellectual output.
At the same time, I am often encouraged with what I see happening in smaller pockets online. Thus I want to seed something new from the emergent relationships that have taken root in our corner of the internet.
What does that mean?
I’ll be honest with you, I don’t know, but I want to find out. So, next week, I’m going to host an hour-long Zoom call to explore this idea further. I have some ideas—prompts, a little oxygen for the embers—and I’ll share them with you.
If you saw my call, then you know a little bit about what I’m about. I’m pretty well-versed in the ins and outs of what’s happening in California, online and off, and I’m still left thinking we can generate new and valuable attractor points, not just for our creative work but for social conviviality as well.
I’ll say more on Thursday, September 30 at 3:00 pm PST. There’s a Zoom registration link below. Be sure to RSVP if you want to attend.

Feel free to share the registration link with other interested and considerate Californians who might be interested in this call.
If Thursday ends up being a bad time for most people, then I’ll look to re-schedule. Otherwise, that’s all for now, and I’ll hope to see you all next week.
Best wishes,
Adam
